Zidoval 7.5mg/g Vaginal Gel (Metronidazole 0.75%)

What does Zidoval vaginal gel contain?

The active ingredient in [his medicine is metronidazole 0.75%. an antibacterial agent which is supplied in a yet made for vaginal application.

The other ingredients are purified water, propylene glycol.

Carbopol 974P. melhylparaben. disodium edetate, propylparaben. sodium hydroxide.

Each pack contains one 4(Je screw-top tube of Zidoval vagina] gel with five throw away vaginal applicators.

What does Zidoval vaginal gel do?

Zidoval gel is for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (commonly known as BV), it works against the bacteria most often responsible for bacterial vaginal infection. By applying Zidoval gel directly into the vagina, metronidazole can destroy the bacteria at the site of infection) wit are inn sure why liduvat vaginal get has been prescribed for you, ask your doctor.

Before using Zidoval vaginal gel tell your doctor if:

  • you are allergic to metronidazole, other nitroimidazoles, parabens or any other ingredient of this gel
  • you have a disease of the blood
  • you are taking a medicine to prevent blood clotting
  • you are taking lithium therapy
  • you are being treated with 5-fiuorouracil or eyclosporin
  • you are pregnant, or think you may be pregnant
  • you are breast-feeding
  • you are having a period

Your doctor may still want you to use Zidoval vaginal gel. Before using Zidoval gel, you may also wish to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist whether you may consume alcohol while using this product. There have been reports of an unpleasant reaction (flushing, headache, feeling or being sick, fast heart bean associated with drinking alcohol whilst taking metronidazole tablets by mouth. However, when using Zidoval gel by vaginal application, only very small amounts of metronidazole are absorbed into the blood stream, making any reaction with alcohol very unlikely, although it cannot be ruled out.

Sexual intercourse is not recommended during treatment with Zidoval gel.

Symptoms of vaginal thrush may become more noticeable during treatment with Zidoval gel. and may require treatment. Metronidazole may interfere with the results of some blood tests. If you are having any blood tests, inform the doctor/nurse/technician taking your blood that you are using Zidoval vaginal gel which contains metronidazole.

How to use Zidoval vaginal gel

The label on this pack should tell you WHO this medicine is meant for, WHAT dose to use and WHEN to use it. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist or follow this advice. Throw away applicators are provided to help you apply the gel into the vagina. When filled with gel, each applicator contains one single dose (5g). Insert the contents of one tilled applicator into the vagina at bedtime. Repeal this procedure with a fresh applicator at each bedtime for five consecutive days or as directed by your doctor.

There is no experience with Zidoval vaginal gel in children, so it is not usually prescribed for use in young girls under IS years.

Zidoval vaginal gel is for vaginal use only. You should not use it in any other way. Full instructions on how to use the applicators are given at the end of this leaflet.

What to do if you miss a dose

If you miss a bedtime dose or Zidoval gel there is no need to worry. Take the next dose at your next bedtime and continue treatment until the full course, as prescribed by your doctor, has been used.

What to do if you use too many doses

It is important to keep to the dose on the label, but if you accidentally apply more than one full applicator of Zidoval vaginal gel in one day there is no need to worry. The use of more than one dose in a day is not expected to cause you any problems, although you may be more likely to experience side effects (see below).

After starting to use Zidoval vaginal gel

Most women find using Zidoval gel causes no problems but as with most medicines, a few may experience side effects.

Side Effects

Together with its required effect, any medicine may cause side effects. There have been reports of the following side effects occurring with Zidoval vaginal gel: • itching, burning or swelling in or around the vagina, abnormal vaginal discharge; vaginal Candida infection: a feeling of increased pressure in the pelvic area; menstrual discomfort or irregularities: abdominal discomfort, cramp or pain, feeling or being sick, diarrhoea, constipation, reduced appetite: headache, dizziness, feeling irritable, difficulty in sleeping, depression, tiredness; a metallic or altered taste, or unusual feeling on the tonpe, feeling thirst, dry mouth: darkened urine, urinary tract infection: itchy skin: unusual sensation in the extremities: cramping.

If you develop any of the above side effects after applying Zidoval vaginal gel, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using any more. If you experience any other side effects, inform your doctor who will decide if you should stop using this medicine.

If you still have symptoms

If, after using Zidoval vaginal gel, you feel no better you should see your doctor again.

How to store Zidoval vaginal gel

Keep your lube of Zidova] gel and ihe vaginal applicators together in their box. Do nul store above 25°C, Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold, which could spoil the gel.

As with all medicines, keep them safely away from children. A child may be harmed by a medicine prescribed for someone else.

Do not use Zidoval vaginal gel after the expiry date printed on the box or bottom of the tube.

This medicine is for YOU. Only a doctor can prescribe it for you. Never let someone else use it: it may be harmful to them.

How to use the applicators

Your tube of Zidoval vaginal gel is packed in a box which also contains five throw away vaginal applicators.

When filled with gel, each applicator contains one single dose of Zidoval gel for application into the vagina.

Hygiene

To ensure maximum hygiene, always wash your hands before opening die rube or touching the applicators use a fresh applicator for each dose immediately throw away the used applicator in the waste bin

Opening lite tube

Before using Zidoval vaginal gel for the first time, you will need to puncture the metal seal on the tube. To do this, simply unscrew the cap from die tube and pierce the seal using the pointed tip of the cap.

Filling the applicator

Remove an applicator from the wrapper. Unscrew the cap from the tube and screw the open end of the applicator onto the tube.

Squeeze the tube slowly from the bottom to fill the applicator with gel; the plunger will move as the applicator fills and will stop moving when the applicator contains the correct amount of gel,

Unscrew the applicator and replace the cap on the tube.

Inserting Ike applicator

Hold the filled applicator by its barrel and gently insert it into your vagina as far as it will comfortably go.

You may find it easiest to do this whilst lying on your back with your knees bent: alternatively, choose any position you find comfortable. Applying the gel

Slowly press the plunger to deposit the gel into your vagina: continue pressing until the plunger stops {this will ensure you have released the correct amount of gel).
