Mycelex G cream (Clotrimazole)

This medicine is available over the counter (OTC) for the treatment of vaginal yeast infections. Use it carefully and follow the directions to get the best results.

You must contact a doctor if your symptoms worsen, do not get better in 3 days, or last more than 7 days.

What this medicine is for

This vaginal cream contains clotrimazole, an antifungal medicine that treats vaginal yeast infections (vaginal candidiasis) and helps relieve external itching and irritation due to a yeast infection.

Thrush is a common infection caused by a yeast (fungus) that may live harmlessly in the vagina. In certain circumstances, it can overgrow and cause symptoms that may spread to the surrounding area.

These symptoms may include one or more of the following:

• Itching of the vagina and surrounding area (the vulva)
• Redness and swelling of the tissues of the vagina and vulva
• Soreness of the vagina and vulva
• A white discharge from the vagina

Thrush is usually not considered a sexually transmitted infection, but it may sometimes be passed to a partner during sexual intercourse. If your partner develops symptoms, they should speak with a healthcare professional.

Before you use this medicine

Do not use:

• If you have never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor
• If you are allergic to any of the ingredients

Ask a doctor before use if you have:

• Vaginal itching and discomfort for the first time
• Lower abdominal, back or shoulder pain, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or foul-smelling vaginal discharge (you may have a more serious condition)
• Vaginal yeast infections often (such as once a month or 3 in 6 months)
• Been exposed to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

When using this product

• Do not use tampons, douches, spermicides, or other vaginal products
• Do not have vaginal intercourse
• Condoms and diaphragms may be damaged and fail to prevent pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
• Mild increase in vaginal burning, itching, or irritation may occur
• If you do not get complete relief, ask a doctor before using another product

How to use this medicine

The carton contains a tube of vaginal cream and an applicator for intravaginal use. Do not use if the foil seal on the tube opening is broken or missing.

Adults and children 12 years of age and over: Insert one applicatorful of cream into the vagina at bedtime for 7 days in a row. Wash the applicator after each use.

Children under 12 years of age: Ask a doctor.

If you have itching and irritation on the skin outside the vagina, you may apply a small amount of the cream to the affected external area 2 times daily for up to 7 days, as needed.

Possible side effects

Most people will not have problems, but some may get mild effects such as vaginal burning, itching, or irritation.

Stop use and ask a doctor if:

• Symptoms do not get better in 3 days
• Symptoms last more than 7 days
• You get a rash or hives, abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, or a foul-smelling vaginal discharge

How to store this medicine

Store at room temperature 68–77°F (20–25°C).

Protect from moisture. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

What is in this medicine

This vaginal cream contains clotrimazole 1% (10 mg/g) (about 50 mg in each applicatorful). Inactive ingredients may vary by manufacturer.
